Each course is five weeks long, and each new class starts together on the same date and finishes together on the same date. Each class has no more than twenty (20) students and is facilitated by an Instructor-Coach.

A day before the course begins, you will receive (by e-mail) an ID and password to access the private E-Class Forum (an online bulletin board) established exclusively for the E-Class in which you are enrolled. You'll also receive a link to download your Student Handbook [in PDF format] for the entire 5-week course. The Student Handbook contains the readings for the course and other course information.

Only you and the students enrolled in this class (and the Instructor-Coach) can access the private E-Class Course Forum.

On or before the first day of the course, you will post a brief paragraph on your E-Class Course Forum, introducing yourself to the rest of the class (and to your Instructor-Coach).

Working efficiently, you will probably need to invest approx. 4 hours of work (reading and writing) each week to keep up with your coursework.

You can access your Instructor-Coach by e-mail throughout the course for any questions about the lessons, or about other resources you might want to access for help or ideas. [If an answer could be of interest to everyone, then he/she may share it on the E-Class Forum.]

Each class week begins on Thursday, and ends at midnight on Wednesday.

During A Typical Week...

1. You can refer to your Student Handbook to find your assigned reading and other activities for the week; most of your assigned readings are in this Handbook.

2. In your Student Handbook, you'll also find the assigned Student Challenge for this week, to be completed (independently) in writing and sent by e-mail to the Instructor-Coach, no later than midnight on Sunday each week. Each Student Challenge does require some thought or research. The goal of each Student Challenge is not to create "make-work" for the sake of a grade or credits, but rather to help you walk away from this course with practical ideas, problem-solving experience, tools, work products, etc., to make you more successful in your business!

A Student Challenge can be a question just to verify the you did the reading, coupled with a project such as:

  • A case study, problem situation, or scenario to which you must respond in writing with a solution or suggested course of action;
  • Part of your new listing or buyer presentation package;
  • A letter to a buyer or seller regarding some aspect of a transaction;
  • The wording to be used for a classified ad describing one or more new listings for sale; or
  • Analysis of a given situation, identifying right/wrong actions taken.

[You will send your completed Challenge for the week by email to your Instructor-Coach; it is not shared with, or "viewable" by, anyone else.]

3. Each week, at the beginning of the week, the instructor will post TWO things online, in the private E-Class forum for your course: the two Discussions for that week.

You'll respond to BOTH of the Discussions for the week, posting your responses to them on the E-Class Forum. Each of your responses should be 75 words or more. This online E-Class Forum is an ongoing conversation with other members of your class; in your own responses, feel free to comment or elaborate on, or even disagree with, responses posted by your classmates ...respectfully, of course!

All responses to the Discussions must be posted on the E-Class Forum no later than midnight on Tuesday of each week. [They can obviously be completed and posted earlier, if you wish.]

4. After Tuesday, the Instructor-Coach for the class will name UP TO FIVE students in class receiving extra credit for their Student Challenges for that week OR for exceptional responses to the Discussions. The Instructor-Coach may also post brief comments and/or tips, to allow everyone to learn from the best work done by you and your classmates.

Grading

In order to pass the course, you must:

  1. Complete all five written Student Challenges, one per week;
  2. Post two comments each week on the assigned Discussions for the week, each 75 words or more; and
  3. Verify that you have read all five lessons in your Student Handbooks and companion materials.

Doing the above, on time, guarantees a grade of 80. For each week that an individual's response to the Student Challenge is selected as one of the top projects for that week, you will earn an additional 5 points on your grade. Points will be deducted for any work that is late. No grade will be given until your final written assignment has been submitted. No credit will be given for partial completion of the course.

A passing grade for the course is 70.

[One week after the course's official ending date, all grades will be finalized, and students whose work is still incomplete will receive a failing grade at this time.]

The Bottom Line

Our E-Class Courses are not traditional "online" courses and they are not for everybody... they are designed for the "cream of the crop" in the business - those REALTORS who welcome a challenge, don't mind sharing their ideas with others, and really want to equip themselves for long-term success in a changing industry.

The skills that our E-Class offerings require - to use e-mail effectively, to communicate in writing, and to find real answers to questions and real solutions to problems - are skills that all true professionals need in MUCH greater measure today, to excel as a REALTOR!
